MoreVPN started in Penang in 2009, not as a generic VPN startup idea, but as a practical fix for a real operating problem. At the time, I was running Amazon seller accounts and needed faster, more stable access to US networks to keep workflows moving.
Back then, the regional sea cable issues were making connectivity unreliable. In August 2009, multiple reports documented faults and typhoon-related damage affecting major Asia-Pacific routes including APCN2, APCN, and SMW-3, with traffic across Southeast Asia being rerouted and slowed on the way to overseas networks. That did not mean Singapore was untouched. It meant the whole region was under stress, and the real difference came down to upstream routing quality. In practice, I found that tunneling traffic from Malaysia through a Singapore VPN still gave me a more usable path to US networks than my default connection, because Singapore providers often had stronger international transit and cleaner peering toward American destinations.
Put simply: the workaround was not "Singapore was unaffected." The workaround was that Malaysia to Singapore to a better international backbone to the US could perform better than staying on a weaker or more congested default route. That hands-on experience taught me something important early: in network operations, route quality matters as much as geography.
It also taught me why a normal shared VPN was the wrong tool for serious seller operations. Shared VPNs rotate users through the same address pools, which means your login history gets mixed with the behavior of strangers. For an Amazon seller, that is a bad trade: more captchas, more verification friction, and more risk that an account gets flagged because the IP has already been abused by someone else. I did not need an anonymous crowd. I needed a stable identity.
That is why the service moved toward dedicated IP VPNs. A dedicated IP gave me a cleaner, more predictable reputation footprint, a fixed address for repeated logins, and a setup that was much easier to trust for long-term account safety. The goal was never just "connect through another country." The goal was to maintain a connection path and an IP identity that looked consistent, private, and low-risk over time.
Historical Context, August 2009
Contemporary reporting at the time described serious disruption to regional internet access after faults hit the Asia-Pacific Cable Network 2 (APCN2) and related systems, while Typhoon Morakot was also reported to have damaged APCN, APCN2, and SMW-3. Those outages affected parts of Southeast Asia, including Singapore and Malaysia, and slowed access to overseas websites hosted in the United States and elsewhere. By late 2009, Singapore's position as a stronger US-bound transit hub was also becoming clearer with the Asia-America Gateway (AAG), a cable system launched to connect Asia more directly to the United States.
That origin still defines the service now. MoreVPN was built by someone who actually needed clean routing, predictable IP reputation, and a safer way to operate high-value accounts, not by a company chasing mass-market "unblocking" traffic. The product exists because shared pools and unstable routes were getting in the way of account safety, speed, and day-to-day operations.
Operated from Malaysia — outside the 5-Eyes, 9-Eyes, and 14-Eyes intelligence-sharing alliances. We aren't subject to the mass data-retention laws that affect US, UK, and EU operators. That independence is structural, not just a policy claim.
We don't sell "content unblocking" or mass-market privacy. We sell operational reliability. Whether you're an Amazon seller protecting your storefront reputation or a developer securing a remote server, we provide the fixed ground you need to stand on.
We don't ship a proprietary app or require you to lock into a central database. We provide audited configuration files for the official open-source WireGuard and OpenVPN clients — so you can verify the security yourself, as it should be.
